NI’s Louise McLean on Craft Master: Series 2

Portrush based basketmaker, Louise McLean of Atlantic Craft NI, is featured on the basketry episode of the second series of CRAFT MASTER. This show, searching for Ireland's newest craft talent, airs on RTE ONE at 7pm on the 1st of October.

The current series of Craft Master is presented by Sonya Lennon and began on the 3rd of September. During the six-part series, 15 apprentices who are passionate about making, compete to produce a unique piece of work that will see them represent their chosen craft discipline from the fields of millinery, furniture, jewellery, knitting and basketry. Louise is the only maker from Northern Ireland in the current series.

This has been a busy season for designer basketmaker Louise who has just returned from Windsor, where she was part of a group of willow artists across the UK who weaved the 'Coronation Arches' situated on the Long Walk On the way up to Windsor Castle. The six giant arches each represent a decade of the Queens Coronation and is the UK's biggest floral art installation. Louise, supported by Coleraine Borough Council, was the only willow artist from Northern Ireland selected to work on the Royal Windsor Rose & Horticultural Society project.

And this is just the start of even more activity for Atlantic Craft NI - Read more about them on Craft NI's Craft Map.

See Louise McLean on the basketry episode of Craft Master on RTE ONE at 7pm on Tuesday, 1st of October.

Craft Master celebrates the very best of Irish design and craftsmanship in a hugely entertaining format. The show is produced by Big Mountain Productions in collaboration with the Crafts Council of Ireland and with the support of the Broadcasting Authority of Ireland (BAI) and RTÉ.  The winner of Craft Master Series 2 gets the opportunity to kick-start a career in craft by receiving a stand at the largest international trade fair in the country, Showcase - Ireland’s Creative Expo, which is run by the Crafts Council of Ireland and promoted internationally by Enterprise Ireland.
