NI Makers in the Spotlight

Every month we hear exciting stories of Northern Irish designer-makers who have been profiled internationally or are due to have their work viewed by an international audience in the near future.

Designer-makers like contemporary jewellery Rachel McKnight whose work was showcased at the Inhorgenta 2013 Exhibition in Munich during February.

Rachel was part of a delegation of ten Irish jewellery makers who took part in Inhorgenta supported by the Crafts Council of Ireland; or Louise McLean of Atlantic Crafts whose basketry business will be profiled in the March edition of Country Living Magazine (and who credits social media for an order for her 'Coastal Range' of basketry from as far away as Fiji).

Hot Glass, New Work from the Furnace, a collaboration between the Contemporary Glass Society (UK) and Contemporary Applied Arts in London, showcases new and innovative work using blown glass techniques. It takes place in April and will feature work by NI-based glass artists, Scott Benefield and Catherine Keenan. Another NI glass artist - Alison Lowry is currently the Contemporary Glass Society's featured member.

Keep an eye on the Harley Gallery's Exhibitions Listings. 'Drawings and Pots' is an exhibition of new work from ceramicist Adam Frew from his time spent on the Welbeck Estate, observing artisan food production, forestry, farming and various art practices which take place later in the year. This will be the first time his drawings will be shown alongside his pots.

Finally, good news from January's Showcase event in Dublin, work by glass artist Keith Sheppard has been selected to be shown at the Guinness Gallery.

We would also like to take this opportunity to send our good wishes to all 13 exhibitors at the forthcoming Craft NI Perspective exhibition at Craft Central, London (11th-15th March).

This is just a small round-up of the burgeoning reputation of Northern Irish designer-makers abroad. If you have news you would like to share with Craft NI, please email - we may not be able to include everything but we do like to have the information.
